Planning Your Backyard Project for 2013

Happy 2013! The Holidays are over and it’s time to start planning for your backyard  project. Don’t procrastinate! Contact Poseidon Pools and let us help you get started on the design process. By getting an early start we can create a beautiful, comprehensive plan that is well thought out and ready to submit to your H.O.A. and building department which can take weeks. Don’t kick yourself later. If you’re planning to be at your house for years to come, try not to cut back. You will be living in your backyard and looking at it every day so you will be happy you went that extra mile and got the stone coping or added the built-in spa and  went with the pebble pool finish. Also things like full masonry fire pits and BBQ’s instead of prefabricated ones, (which start breaking down in a couple of years) will look so amazingly beautiful and will actually give you a return if you decide to sell in the future. Building during the winter months does take a little longer because of the challenges that the weather brings, but this is the time when you don’t use your yard much, so it works out perfectly. We don’t usually have any major deadlines like the 4th of July, so there is a zero stress level and the process is not being rushed and we can take the time to do everything properly and dial in every last little detail. By the time it gets warm enough to swim, your project will be complete. Now you can start off your summer of 2013 by inviting your friends and family over for a pool party and BBQ. And why not keep it going into the warm summer night? Relax in the spa and hang out by the fire pit, roasting marshmallows with the kids.

Have a great year!

The Poseidon Pools Standard

Analog Time Clock Box

When getting bids for swimming pools, most companies will have a base price which shows what is included in their starting pool package. What is included in this base package is entirely up to that particular company so you really have to pay attention when comparing one company’s bid to another. Before pool controls went automated, there were analog time clock boxes (shown at right).

Pentair Easy Touch Automated Control Panel

This is what most companies will include in their base pool package mainly because it makes the bottom line look good. However, you will end up paying for it in a change order down the road when they explain the difference between the analog time clock panel and the automated control panel (shown at left) because let’s face it… the dual time clock panels are old school. Why would you want to build a new pool or get your  pool renovated and put outdated equipment on it? Along with that outdated panel comes a single speed pump, 1 white 500w light and no remotes.

Pentair Variable Speed Pump

Swimmingpool technology has advanced quite a bit in the past 10 years so, we figured it’s time to create a new standard. Our standard pool package will include an automated panel, a remote control (wireless or wall mounted inside your house), an energy-efficient Eco-friendly pump, LED color changing lights, colored plaster with a silicone shield additive, your choice of a salt chlorine generator OR a tri-chlor tablet feeder and a UV sanitizing system, a cartridge filter and pool sweep.

The bottom line will not be sugar-coated by putting lesser equipment or materials on your pool. We will always give you the best and what’s current because we know that’s what you want. We also know how to keep you within budget so we can show you where you can cut back and still get you the pool you desire.

Bringing a hand drawn plan to life

On occasion we work with clients who have already obtained a plan from a landscape designer. As well as these plans may (sometimes) be laid out, we like to go the extra mile and recreate them (and tweak them if need be) in 3D to give the home owner a better feel for what their new backyard will look like. We will also create a building department ready construction plan at the same time. Here is a plan that I was recently handed to bid on which I am beginning to recreate and “bring to life.”

We proudly use subcontractors… Why this is actually ideal for your construction project.

Many people, for some reason have the misconception that using sub-contractors is a bad thing. I’m not sure how that came about but I will argue quite the contrary. There are always going to be good contractors and bad contractors. A bad contractor is most likely someone who is not a good person to begin with. I have personally selected sub-contractors based on their quality of craftsmanship and work ethic. I use the same subs every time to maintain consistent quality on every job. Like us, our subs are owner operators so it is in their best interest to do the best work they possibly can to secure the future livelihood of their business. On top of that, they specialize in a specific phase of your project so you can be sure that each phase will be executed with the highest quality and professionalism possible. With swimming pools being a highly specialized type of construction, this can be imperative, particularly with finish materials….you would not want your steel guy doing stone work on your pool just like you would not visit an optometrist to do dental work…. hopefully.
