Project Spotlight: The Ultimate Modern Oasis with a Cantilevered Shade & Water Feature

Our client came to us with a vision for a sleek, contemporary pool design that would not only serve as a place to cool off but also as an architectural statement. They wanted something truly unique—an outdoor retreat that combined luxury with an unexpected twist.

The Pool Design
At the heart of this project is a modern, geometric pool featuring clean lines and a minimalist aesthetic. The pool’s design is simple yet elegant, with a serene, infinity-edge that creates a visual illusion of water blending seamlessly with the surrounding landscape. To maintain the modern feel, we used a combination of glass tiles and smooth concrete finishes, ensuring a sleek, polished look.

The Showstopper: Custom Cantilevered Shade Structure
The highlight of this project, however, is the custom cantilevered shade structure that hovers dramatically over one side of the pool. This architectural marvel provides both form and function, offering much-needed shade while adding an ultra-modern edge to the overall design.

The structure features large steel beams that extend outwards without the need for visible support columns, creating a floating effect over the pool deck. The cantilevered design not only maximizes usable space beneath but also allows for unobstructed views of the water.

Innovative Water Feature: Water Flowing from the Rafters
As if the cantilevered shade wasn’t eye-catching enough, we took it one step further by integrating a custom water feature directly into the structure. Water cascades elegantly from hidden channels within the rafters, creating the illusion of rain falling from the ceiling. This subtle, calming flow of water adds a sensory experience to the space, cooling the air and enhancing the tranquil atmosphere.

At night, the water feature becomes even more striking, with integrated LED lighting that illuminates the falling water, casting a soft glow over the pool area.

The Hang Out

Volcano Pool

We were called upon by Lucas Lagoons to collaborate on a volcano themed, lazy river pool in Florida. Lucas came up with an amazing design, especially considering the alotted space. We provided the sculpted volcanic rock work and tiki statues which shoot water out of the mouths. As a bonus for the client, who was a race car driver, we added number on the back of the volcano.

Backyard Escape

This project is a Poseidon Pools complete design/build. Initially my client said he wanted a spa and a fire pit but he also said, " the design has to knock my socks off!" So I came up with this beautiful complete backyard getaway. Now they never want to leave the house... neither do their family and friends. The backyard was a bit of a challenge because of the multiple levels and the limited amount of space to work in.  There was a 6' high x 85' long  keystone wall that the home owner wasn't thrilled with so we tore it down and built a new wall as part of the pool structure and faced it in natural stone with several tree designs to break up the linear look. Also on the project is a spa, slide with a waterfall rock over the top, grotto with surround sound speakers as well as speakers throughout the yard which are iPhone controlled, outdoor kitchen with bar and TV, patio cover with fans lights and skylights, gazebo with fan and lights, fire pit with booth style seating, 68 landscape lights all iPhone controlled. Pool and spa are also iPhone controlled.

Arden Park Overhaul

We worked very closely with our clients to create something the whole family could enjoy. Arden park is a well established neighborhood and we wanted to the backyard to reflect that and not seem out of place so we used a lot of rustic, earth tones and natural stone which compliment the rustic, craftsmen style patio structure. These clients also entertain a lot so there is plenty of room under the structure for sitting and eating near the BBQ island. In the evening, they can take a few steps down a flagstone walkway just outside their bedroom door to the hot tub which features a beautiful masonry wall surround

This Arden Park (Sacramento) project was designed to match the newly built home's modern look so it feels as if the house and yard were designed as a master plan. This pool features a spa with reclined seat backs and multiple jets per seat and seats six people. There are dual Cabo shelves on either side of the spa, one at 6" of water and one at 15" of water. Each shelf has two LED color changing lights and two LED color changing bubblers. Adjacent are three square concrete planter/water bowls and two LED color changing deck jets (Laminars). We did a different take on a jump rock and created a jump rock/diving board. Due to the limited side yard space there was nowhere to really hide the pool equipment which had a pretty big foot print so we put it in the rear of the yard and screened it off with a tongue and groove screen wall which matches the property fence which we also built. The screen wall blends right in to the property fence and it also creates a nice back drop for the fire pit area. On the fire pit, we used the same stone that was used on the front of the house. The outdoor kitchen area features a 7 burner grill with rotisserie, a bar style sink, an outdoor rated fridge, trash drawer and double drawer for utensils.
The kitchen is shaded by a super custom I beam construction patio cover with metal roof and redwood joists. We did not want the posts of the structure to interfere with sitting or walking space and we wanted the bar seating area to be fully shaded so we put the posts close together and cantilevered the roof. There is LED lighting tucked under the counter tops, a fan under the patio cover, down lighting under the patio cover and lights on the posts which are all controlled by switches that are conveniently located on the side of the BBQ island. We also installed outlets around the island for a blender, rotisserie plug in and there is also a USB outlet at the bar top for charging phones.

El Dorado Gold

This custom pool located in the Blackstone community in El Dorado Hills, CA features a raised patio area with spa that has reclined seats and multiple jets per seat. The interior finish is a classic, silky smooth Tahoe blue plaster (out personal favorite!) The raised patio doubles as a nice jumping platform. The copper spillway on the spa matches the copper scuppers on the raised walls of the pool. These three spillways create a nice smooth sheer descent effect and a calming white noise. At night the three spillways are up-lit by color changing LED lights. The Sydney Peaks ledge stone on the pool walls set off the entire project by strongly contrasting the gray, stamped concrete. On either end of the pool there are concrete, fire/water bowls. The fire pit area allows for 360 degree seating.

This courtyard style back yard in Historic Folsom features a super custom spa with dual reclined seats with multiple jets including calf jets. The spa doubles as a plunge pool for hot summer days. Adjacent the spa, there is a fire pit and BBQ island with granite tops. The bark stacked stone on all the vertical surfaces ties everything together.

This spa features an arched back wall with Mt. Mariah flagstone and three sheer descents, concrete water bowls on pedestals, acid stained concrete caps. The interior finish is Quartzscapes Aegean green. 

The outdoor kitchen which comes right off the side of the spa features a 34" grill/rotisserie/smoker, access doors and a fridge. The counter top and bar top are acid stained concrete to match the spa cap.

This project was quite a challenge because the home owners had started the job themselves by pouring all the concrete and leaving a cut out for the spa. We had to dig the spa by hand and there wasn't much room to work but as you can see the final result is a beautiful, fully custom grillin' and chillin' station.

This outdated pool and backyard, located in the Arden Park neighborhood of Sacramento had plenty of potential which we brought out by creating a beautiful and functional backyard living space complete with a custom spa added to the pool which has multiple jets per seat and reclined seat backs and custom copper scuppers spilling into the pool, custom fire pit created on site out of one solid rock, custom outdoor kitchen with bar and covered with a beautiful rustic patio structure.

We integrated this beautiful pool into this Folsom backyard and utilized some of the existing boulder to make it feel as if the pool and landscape was all part of a master plan. We selected stone coping and ledge stone to compliment the existing rockwork. The custom plaster color of the pool really offsets the earth tones and makes the pool stand out. The spa features multiple jets per seat and reclined seat backs as all of our spas do. There is a copper sheer descent on the raised sun shelf for some nice sound and water movement. We also used some of the existing boulder to create subtle water features at the entrance of the pool.

Arden Park Classic

This 40' x 20' rectangular pool features a Caribbean shelf in the shallow end, 3 deck jets shooting into the pool, an 18" raised spa at the deep end which has a square outside and circle inside. The spa is faced with McGregor Lake cottage blend stone and has a Mt Mariah flagstone spillway which complement each other perfectly. Pool and spa interior finish is a turquoise plaster.

Adjacent the spa, there is a full masonry outdoor kitchen and fire place which are faced with McGregor Lake cottage blend stone and have acid stained concrete tops. This area is covered by an alumawood pergola which has lighting above the cooking area, a fan/light in the center and lights facing the pool. In front of the fireplace there is a Mt. Mariah flagstone inlay.
